I struggled with competing desires to say something about this book and knowing that there is not much I could possibly say to do this book justice without revealing substantial pieces of its storyline. Ultimately, my desire to add my voice to the litany of people celebrating this book in recent history carried the day.
Small Things Like These is a quick, compelling read that is both familiar and disquieting through the very end. At the risk of drawing overly broad comparisons, the general atmosphere reminded me of a Dickens novel, but it was more inviting and personal in my experience.
This is a book for everyone. It asks little in the way of a time commitment, but it was a capable reminder of the depths of emotions a book can evoke.
